Perched on San Francisco Bay with scenic vistas everywhere you turn, the city is actually a collection of distinctively different neighborhoods. Here’s a sample of San Francisco neighborhood diversity.

Union Square is considered the center of the city, surrounded with by big retail names like Neiman-Marcus, Saks and Macy’s. It is also the San Francisco theater district. The Financial District hosts towering corporate headquarters, brokers and bankers. Head to South of Market (SOMA) for art museums, galleries and hip after-hours dance clubs. Nob Hill is the home of old California money and power. North Beach is a great place to hang out for a taste of San Francisco restaurants. Fisherman’s Wharf is the tourist center of the city; lined with restaurants and souvenir shops. The Marina District is bordered by the Presidio and Golden Gate Park. And, there’s still Chinatown, Japantown, hippie-style Haight-Ashbury, the Castro gay and lesbian community, the Latino Mission District. San Francisco International Airport (SFO) offers service from over 60 U.S. cities and 30 worldwide international destinations. The San Francisco BART subway system offers fast and economical access to stations within the city and outlying areas. A taxi ride into the city takes 30-40 minutes and costs around $40. Shuttles offer group rates with multiple stops at major hotels. Unless you are traveling outside the city, there is no need for a rental car. Getting around San Francisco is easy. It is a wonderful walking city and there’s plenty of public transportation system via BART, buses and streetcars.
