Things to Do in San Francisco
San Francisco offers around-the-clock activities and attractions for all ages, interests, tastes and budgets. It’s not difficult to find a get acquainted city tour; it can be difficult to choose from the array of bus/shuttle tours, tram/trolley tours, walking tours, Duck tours, harbor cruises, bike tours and Segway tours. On the unique side, try an authentic Red Firetruck Tour, fun and funky Mr. Toad’s vintage touring cars and a Wok Wiz walking and tasting tour behind the scenes in Chinatown.

There are too many San Francisco must-see and must-do experiences to name. Make your first purchase a San Francisco travel guide and look for favorites. Alcatraz Tours are a highlight for most visitors. It is just a short harbor cruise to “The Rock” for up-close-and-personal audio-guided view of the prison life and the infamous cellhouse. (Purchase Alcatraz tour tickets in advance. The popular tour is usually sold out each day.) A ride on the historic clanging cable cars is a San Francisco tradition. (Best bet: Hop aboard early in the day and ride the entire route. Lines are long at boarding stations.) Head to Telegraph Hill and Coit Tower for incredible bay views. Walk or ride across the landmark Golden Gate Bridge and spend an afternoon seeing the sights in Golden Gate Park. A Go San Francisco Card features discounts on more than 45 Bay Area attractions and tours.

When night falls, San Francisco moves to a new beat. From hip nightspots, to Broadway shows, top-name concerts and comedy clubs, there’s plenty of entertainment. For a zany look at the world, make advance reservations for Beach Blanket Babylon, a musical satire that’s been a San Francisco hit for almost 34 years.

And, there are almost as many day trips as local attractions. Napa Valley and Sonoma Valley offer winery tours and the chance to swirl, sniff, sip and savor as many wines as you can handle. Take the ferry across the Bay to trendy Sausalito. Enjoy the quiet among the towering redwoods of Muir Woods. Drive the scenic Monterey Peninsula. One trip to San Francisco is never enough. No doubt, you will return to the City on the Bay time and time again.
